#ACwJ WTH is wrong with FORD? In a word? Leadership. That begs the question, is this leadership the right one to lead Ford forward? I've come to the conclusion that Ford, at least for the last 50 years, has waffled between two leadership styles. The first is to "hunker down" and focus (no pun intended) on quality. Remember, they used the Quality is Job 1 slogan for a long time building boring c...

It's the EPA's fault in the sense that they left the light truck exception to CAFE standards in, but the solution is to close the loophole and make the light truck category not deregulated in relation to all the others instead. This is a problem caused by a lack of regulation, not regulation. Which is why every other industrial nation, primarily european countries, aren't having this pick up truck size and popularity explosion.

For me the Maverick is a reasonable size & height, but the bed is too small. They should offer a version with a smaller cab and longer bed. Then I'd be interested. I'm currently using a '06 Ranger, single cab and 7' bed. I could do with a slightly longer extra cab and a 6' bed, but full double cab and <6' bed is a waste of space to me. This truck is not my daily driver, I have a fuel efficient sedan for that job. My truck is for hauling stuff, not people. My truck is now nearing 20 years old and the body is clearly showing its age, with rust taking over despite yearly rustproofing. I do not know what I will replace this pickup with as I will still need one. Sure there are full sizers with single cab and 8' bed, but the height of that bed makes it hard to use. I'm not gonna climb up and down the tailgate 25+ times per load to unload firewood.

It's all about profit margins and the fact there are a lot of buyers who want big trucks with a lot of bells and whistles. Americans have always liked their big cars and trucks. There is a lot more to it than EPA standards.

I bought a stripper 1979 TC3 when it came out and my roommate had a 78 Corolla hatchback. The 1.7 was not as smooth as the Toyota engine but there was no comparison when it came to utility and comfort. The TC3 had a nicely padded seat, that did not recline, where as the Corolla had a must-adjustable seat that was more closely related to a lawn chair! And the rear wheel drive Corolla only had a fraction of the space of the TC3. Had a lot of fun in that 4 speed that would scream at 65 mph, but then again, the speed limit was only 55 back then!

Great video. I share many of the same thoughts, particularly that from the profile the trunk looks kind of short and not a fan of the dial shifter. Also, it has the image of being more gangster than past big cars (5th Avenue, Grand Marquis). But the good outweighs the bad. I think it looks better from the inside than out. The long hood and roomy interior and soft ride make it feel a lot like the older big cars that had more overhang front and rear. Also, I like the exterior from certain views. The shots of the rear view look great, as do front angle views where you don’t notice the lack of overhang and short, sloping trunk. The driving experience will not disappoint. I considered buying one for the last model year 2023, but instead got the base model Charger. The Charger is less money, it gives you a regular shifter, and from the profile has a more "notchback" look. That being said I prefer the taillights on the 300 over the full width style on the Charger.

@@AllCarswithJon Yes, I hope the Big 3 will continue to lose market share, as they narrow their product line to only the most profitable offerings .But it's also the result of the change of the CAFE regulation around '06. The reform switched from a sales weighted fleet average, to setting each vehicle’s mpg target according to that vehicle’s footprint. The new regulation openly said the formula was biased to make it harder for smaller vehicles to meet their targets, while giving larger vehicles and trucks, easier targets to meet. All that encourages manufacturers & customers to shift toward larger, less efficient vehicles, defeating the goal of reduced greenhouse gas emissions. In europe how do they get by ? when even there (small) suvs are popular. Their gasoline is 3-4 times more expensive (like here in Canada) but here we have the misfortune of sharing the American market which does not provide us with much choice for small hatchbacks or station wagons. European pollution standards are stricter there and the government imposes sanctions on buyers of large engines. One day you'll have to justify buying an F150 for running errands... but that's never going to happen in the United States.

It would be great to see Jeep produce a new base trim level Wagoneer underneath where the current one sits. Give it a mechanical 4wd with a low range transfer case, cloth seats, and strip out some of the other luxury items. They need to drop the starting price $10k for both the short and long wheelbase and make the Wagoneer($63k/$66k) more accessible for the every man. I feel like it would help it compete better against the Tahoe($56k)/Suburban($59k)/Expedition($55k/$62k). Additionally, they’ve got to address the reliability issues. An entry level Wagoneer at $53k-$56k makes a lot more attractive.
